I don't understand those kind of people

There is one thing that has been in my mind for a while, which is "Why do some people express their appreciation for my help/advice/gifts, etc. to a third person, not to me?"

It's not everyone who does such a thing. I get "Thank you" directly now and again, like everyone else gets. But I've come across quite many cases in which I heard someone (mutual acquaintance/friend/relative) telling me that another person was saying that he/she liked what I did to him/her.

In such cases, those people have ways to get in touch with me cheaply and easily even when they are at the other side of the world. And a strange thing is, they are usually seen as nice and polite people who knows common sense well enough. So, it makes me wonder what stop them from telling me directly. Am I too scary to those decent folks?

From now on, I receive appreciation only directly. So, if you'd like to continue to be seen as "nice", just get in touch with me directly. Nobody has been beaten up for showing me appreciation, you know. Not yet, anyway.
