I went out for a grocery shopping just after lunchtime. I had to, because I got out of the bed in the morning only to find there was nothing but a fist-sized stale loaf bread in the bread bin when all I wanted was a bacon butty. (There were at least 2 rolls after teatime yesterday.)
Anyway, to cheer myself up, I popped in Tesco, grabbed a loaf of decent round bread and also 2 bunches of flowers which I have already forgotten the name of. (1 bunch for £3, and 2 for £5, that's all I remember about the flowers.) Decided to walk a bit longer, and headed to the town centre direction. Went into a butcher's for some sausages and veg rolls.
Got into a wee chat with E, and his face lit up when I told him that I now worked from home. And he sounded really pleased to hear that, which unexpectedly made me feel happy. So far, I have told some of the town folks about my new work , and he was the very first one whose reaction was an invisible version of a big "Well done, girl" pat on my shoulder (or head?). (With that reaction, he could have bought me a pint if we were in a pub. Pity.) The others were as if saying "Oh, I didn't know you could do such a thing, but good, isn't it?" They were OK and nice enough, but since seeing E's happy face and hearing him saying "That's great" very happily, I have been feeling good all day. Well, I've been his customer for 15 years, and I still very clearly remember his genuinely surprised/concerned face when I went into his shop for the first time after the funeral. (I instantly knew that he had heard the news as soon as I saw the facial expression of his. Words spread very well in this town.) So, it was nice that I could indirectly tell him that I had sorted myself out OK, even though I didn't intend to tell him what's going on with my life.
So, now I have one more reason why I buy meat only from that shop, and also more reason why I won't move out of this country.
