Saw our neighbour T outside our house early in the morning and asked him to put the flag up for us. Luckily he was going to put one up on his daughter's house in a few minutes. So, by the time I came home from walking my girls to school, our flag was up.
Wondering what flag it is? Surprise, surprise, it's a Union Jack. It's just a thing some British people do for the 12th July every year. As my hubby was a loyal British, we had the flag up every year. But I had been thinking hard what to do this year. He is gone and what about the flag?
Well, I didn't need to wonder about too long. My girls started mentioning our flag once some flags and bunting were up in some part of the town. They are proudly British as well as Japanese, and we have no reason why we should not put the flag up. So, we asked T to help us.
Laughed with my next-door neighbour, saying that I was the biggest Japanese traitor for flying the British flag. And also saying that she was not a decent British for not putting up her flag yet. Joking, of course. But I might as well call myself British because I've lived in this country long enough to feel myself foreign in Japan. Surely I will get some looks from passers-by, though. Nobody (I mean people who don't know me) expects an oriental-looking woman getting in and out of a house with a Union Jack on. Well, who cares.
