I'm a nurse and a servant.

Now it's the Christmas Eve, and my lovely turkey is drowned in a bucket filled with spiced brine for tomorrow.

Does it sound that I'm having a perfect Christmas season so far? I'm not sure.

My wee one started a flu yesterday morning, and she has been in bed (my bed) all day last night and today (and tonight, I'm sure).

So, I had to go out to buy more medicine (Calpol, liquid paracetamol) so that we have enough for another 3-4 days. I thought that it would be just a 5 minute trip to the nearest chemist, but how wrong I was!! My next-door neighbour rang me while I was getting ready to go out, and asked me if I could get her a turkey leg from a butcher! She forgot to get one from Tesco yesterday. (You can't blame her. Everything was very chaotic in Tesco yesterday afternoon.) Actually, she has fillets of turkey breasts for Christmas dinner, but her son-in-law is a fussy eater, and prefers legs to breasts. (I'm talking about turkeys, not women.) Knowing her daughter was not well, I said yes to her.

I felt rather awkward to step into a butcher's shop, because I was there yesterday to get a whole turkey and a piece of ham. Every familiar face was there because it was the busiest day in the shop. One of my greetings were, "No, I haven't eaten the turkey yet".

One thing that I found funny was my neighbour's son-in-law and the butcher who served me today shared the first name. I felt like asking the butcher "Do you prefer legs to breasts?" but of course I managed to keep my dignity in tact. I didn't need to prove him that I was crazy. I think he knows that already.

Happy Christmas, everyone!
