Child Benefit office: They didn't really know where I was!

Watching a Child Benefit related news yesterday (Belfast will not attract many foreign investors any more, I guess), I thought, "Do they have my correct address?"

Why did I think of that?

Well, I moved to this house about 7-8 years ago, and immediately informed all the government offices and phone/electricity, etc. companies of my new address like everyone does. But no letter from CB office for 4-5 years, I phoned them and asked them to check my record. A male staff told me that they held my old address, and he reassured me that he would make everything updated.

Yesterday, the more I remembered the incident, the more anxious I became. So, I got in touch with the office again this morning. Guess what? A lady told me that they had my current address, but it was not in the main-frame yet. Whatever this "main-frame" is for, I don't know. But it proves that the Child Benefit office hadn't done a job properly for me. (I've never missed a payment, though.)

I was glad that I phoned the office today, but I am not happy with the way they handle personal data. To be fair, I must say that all the other government offices have been OK. They are always very informative, kind and helpful to me. Oh well. 9 rotten men are out of the Child Benefit call centre, so I hope that the government will employ 9 decent people who can work better.
