My wee one is on a school trip in Holland now. The kids gathered at 3:15am on Monday morning. (Yes, MORNING.) I was happy to see her excited and looking forward to this big trip when the kids were getting on the coaches, while her friend's mum was in tears beside me. But I felt something was not quite right when I got home.
Yes, I was starting to feel sad about her absence. Even this heartless old hag has some kind of feelings, it proves. It's got worse since the news of flight disruptions. The kids are due to fly back to Dublin on Friday night. But with regular ash-watching on the net (my big girl calls me a nerd for this),I can't see any certainty anywhere. I know that my wee one is in the safe hands of the teachers, though.
So, I wasn't an efficient model worker today. Wasted quite a long time, just sitting in front of the laptop. And guess what? My neighbour knocked my front door, and asked me to find out about a flight from Belfast City Airport to Bristol. Her son and grandson were to fly home just after dinnertime today ("lunchtime" in standard English), but I found out that the flight was cancelled. Later, her daughter asked me to check the websites again about the flight because the phone line was too busy to speak to anyone from the airline. I was happy to tell them that a 18:30 flight hadn't been cancelled, and very glad to know that he could book 2 seats.
Just praying (not to anything supernatural) that my wee one and her friends will be able to get home as planned. Not sure if I can work properly tomorrow...
I feel with you!
