My landlord and his workmate came here this afternoon to replace the pane of broken glass in the front window with a new one. Glad that everything is now back to normal again.
It was very interesting to watch them sorting out this window: taking off strips of wood along the frame, taking the old glass out, clearing out all the old putty and grimes, applying sealant along the frame, putting the new glass in the frame, placing the wood strips back in the frame with nails, and applying more sealant between the frame and the glass. Nothing complicated, actually, but I guess you need a good amount of confidence to do this kind of job by yourself. My landlord is a tradesman (plasterer), and he can do most of the repairing jobs for house without any struggle.
Then, a thought of the day: Having a high social status and being self-sufficient are two different things.
I've been enjoying your blog for a while, but never commented until yesterday.
ReplyDeleteTo-day I decided to follow the blog, but Blogger would only let me do so under my other identity of Finn.
Glad you got your window fixed. And I agree with you - self-sufficiency and social status are two very different things. People with high social status are rarely capable of being self-sufficient!
