A door bell rang when I was preparing for tea in the kitchen yesterday evening. Opened the front door, and found 2 female police officers.
One of them said, "There's a 999 call, and this address was mentioned".
My first reaction was, "Did anyone phone the police because we were arguing this afternoon??" But the officer also told me that a woman had phoned from this house a few minutes ago. None of us used a phone, so we couldn't understand what the officer was talking about. I let the ladies in the (untidy!) living room, and listened to their explanation.
No, nobody called the police because of my shouting. A caller to the emergency service said that she was calling from my house, and then the police visited my house. The officers had to wait for a few minutes to get in touch with the emergency operator to check the phone number of the caller. It was proved that the caller didn't use my phone. So, the officer reckoned that the operator took down "the correct street name/house number but the wrong town name", or "the wrong street name/house number but the correct town name". So, the police visit was just a mistake.
While the police were waiting to speak to the operator, we had nothing to do. So, all of us were watching TV, which was already on before the police came. One of the officer and I were chatting about the people on the screen as if we were strangers chatting with each other while waiting at a bus stop. My big girl was speechless because she'd never imagined that police officers and I would chat about TV and have a laugh together in this house. Well, what else should I have done??
Weird!
