... yesterday was the very first time in my life that I ate Haagen Dazs ice cream.
I bought 2 tubs of them ("Cookie And Cream" and "Raspberry And Meringue") at Tesco because I was feeling guilty for being a ratty mummy for a few days and also because they were sold at a reduced price as a special offer. I had never been keen to buy any until yesterday, mainly because of the price. I always heard people adoring the ice cream, though. I was always like, "With the amount of money for this tub of Haagen Dazs, I can eat tons of such-and-such." (The dead one used to call me "Scottish Jew", not because of my love of short bread and chicken soup.)
So, my girls were surprised to see two tubs of them when they came home from school yesterday. And we had some of raspberry one after tea. The first word from my big girl was "Quite average". And my wee one said "Meringue is not that great". And this evening, we had cookie one, and my first thought was "Maybe I will enjoy it more if I mix some Oreo cookies with Lidl's vanilla ice cream".
All sound ungrateful, do you think? I'm sure the Haagen Dazs company will never ever send me a complimentary coupon after reading this. But the fact is, in my opinion, all the fuss and the hype surrounding the brand name is much bigger than the actual quality of the products. Still, it's yummy, and I won't be surprised to hear anybody declaring undying love for it, though.
No, you won't have any of the rest of the ice cream if you knock my front door tonight or tomorrow. It's all mine (and my girls').
somehow I have never tried Hargen Datz in Britain, it somehow sounds very very American... ( Remind you that I am nothing against the States. Choosing icecream here is still a mystery to me, it is almost like drawing a raffle...
ReplyDeleteThe Lidle vanilla ice cream mixed up with Oreo cookies are more for me, perhaps.
How about Jerry & Beans, the marshmallow one is great among the few I tried.
Actually, I can't think of any country when I hear Haagen Dazs. I mean, when living in Japan, I saw Haagen Dazs and simply thought "by one of western countries". And after coming over here, I thought "No, definitely not British". Yeah, it's an American company, but somehow it's not very American to me.
ReplyDeleteThe combination of ice cream and marshmallow has become a kind of poison to me:( I used to like one from a little shop near my house. But now it seems that my blood sugar level goes too high whenever I eat super-sugary stuff. (At least I physically feel so.) Well, Lidl's vanilla ice cream (one in blue boxes) is a heaven for a vanilla addict like me. But I can manage only one scoop a day, because it's very sweet.
HD is highly overrated in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteHD sounds german to me
