Table linens, anyone?

It took me a long long time to decide what to get my old friend M for her wedding. She lives in Japan. So, I don't want to send her anything fragile, too heavy or too bulky by post. And I don't like unpractical stuff for gifts.

So, this time, I decided to get her a set of table linen. I'm sure that she will have some kind of table at her new home, and having another set of table linen can be handy for a special occasion or for the time when your favourite one needs washing.

BUT there's one big catch for my decision: I couldn't find any table linen which was suitable for a wedding present for my special friend. Went to the town centre and couldn't find any except some at a catalog shop, which were rather ordinary and cheap. (Mind you, there were loads of plastic/glass place mats. But they were not what I was looking for.) Then, today, hopped on a bus to the nearest shopping centre where there is a department store, because the department store's online shop had some beautiful table linens. Guess what? NOTHING in the shopping centre. If Martians arrived here today and looked around shops, they would never know that table linens ever existed on earth!!! How disappointing.

In the end, I ordered a set of place mats and a matching table runner from the online shop. Sooooo tired after walking around the shopping centre with my girls. They found and bought what they wanted, but it wasn't my day. I couldn't even find particular DVDs which I really wanted to watch. But I still had something to smile about: an iced vanilla latte and an almond croissant at a coffee shop. (Yes, I need to treat myself now and again.)
