I look good!

No, no, I'm not being a big-headed or anything. I always know how bad/good I look, you know.

"Oh, hello, Akiko. You look good today" was a lively greeting from our window cleaner, J, when I met him on the way to the post office. He was cleaning the window of a hairdresser's.

I wasn't dolled up or dressed well, actually. No make-up (but sun block cream and lip balm on), a khaki long-sleeve shirt over a T-shirt and a pair of jeans (I don't think that I went outside without a pair of jeans this year). Oh, and a pair of not-fashionable sunglasses on (to prevent migraines) and listening to music with an mp3 player. Just my usual frumpy (should I call it "casual" instead?) fashion, and it was deady easy to find nicer-looking women in the town. On top of that, I was regretting that I should have washed my hair before going out.

So, it was a kind of "What? Me look good?! You need to get your eyes tested!" when J mentioned the words. Well, well, but J is a friendly chatty type, anyway. (Due to his profession, I'm sure.) And he is over 60, and has been like my uncle or comrade. So, I don't need to be freaked out at all.

Pity no men of my age say such a nice thing to me... They must be either too afraid or too sensible. It reminds me of a boy at university telling me that I was too intimidating to boys. That's their fault, not mine!!
