In late afternoon yesterday, a door bell rang. I opened the front door and saw an oil-delivery man standing. He asked if I was the one who ordered a delivery. Of course not! I always get heating oil from a different man, anyway. So, I told him I hadn't ordered oil and also asked him why he called here. He mumbled that he had no idea which house the order had come from and it was why he called. Then, we said good-bye to each other. He walked towards the oil lorry and I closed the door. Then, from the upstairs window I saw him standing by the lorry across the street speaking to a mad man who lived in this street. Seemed that he didn't knock another door after he spoke to me.
I didn't think much about this incident yesterday. But now I'm wondering why he came to my house... I've seen the particular lorry passing in this area. So, he should know who his regular customers are. (He could be a new delivery man, though.) Maybe the mad man told him some names and addresses which he needed, so that he didn't call another house in this street?? I'm not sure. I find the incident a bit strange. Why didn't he have any detailed info for a delivery? Is he illiterate? Is he just forgetful? Well, he wasn't unpleasant, so I'm not complaining. Still, weird.
Well, maybe the oil company had just given him less than complete info?
ReplyDeleteA couple of weeks ago, we had the experience of a flooring company wanting to deliver a complete floor to us. The street address was the right one, but the (handwritten) order said Jyllinge (where I live) and it should have been Hyllinge (which is kind of nearby, and my street address exists there as well).
I must say, I was a bit surprised when the doorbell rang and the guy said he had a delivery for the dentists' office!
So, you weren't really a dentist, Laerke:))
ReplyDeleteThe oil delivery bloke. Still strange to me. I asked which street or house number or name he was looking for. But he didn't tell me any of them... Just a silly excuse which I can't even remember the exact words. He should have contacted his office (if he has any) instead of me!
Well, I've come to a conclusion: he was either a plain idiot or he just wanted to see me:))) (I'm in a funny mood this morning.)
