Chips and curry for tea

Sisters in this house plot things behind my back nowadays. They are usually at each other's throats, but they are best friends when they are whispering to each other.

Today, they were plotting something in their room. I knew it because with smiles they told me not to come into their room. They tried not to be heard by me. But you know, mothers always know what their kids are up to inside the houses, don't we. I heard everything just by being in the next room. And I always know when they are going to ask me something they really want. They start saying "Mummmyyyyyyyyy," with bashful eyes and smiles.

They didn't need to worry about my answer at all today. They wanted chips from the chip shop for tea and they volunteered to go out and get chips by themselves. We hadn't had any takeaways for ages, so no problem of us eating chips this evening. It was a big adventure for them, as it was the first time they went to a chip shop without an adult. The boss and his missus at the shop know us anyway. Shouldn't be any trouble.

They came home empty-handed, unfortunately. The chip shop wasn't open! It's Easter Sunday, any way. But they told me that the Chinese takeaway across the road was open. They didn't like my suggestion of me re-heating left-over rice in the fridge. So, they had to go to the Chinese for chips. I was worried about them j-walking the big road. But they agree to walk a few yards more to the traffic lights to cross the road.

It was the longest 15 minutes of my life, really. I know it's just less than 5 minute walk from home to the takeaway and this area is quite safe for kids. Nice to see them growing up. Hope they'll soon volunteer to tidy up their own mess, too!

By the way, the chip shop opened just after my girls got out of the Chinese takeaway.
