My girls and I had a day trip to Belfast today, which was a nice break for all of us. We need to get out of this small town sometimes, or we will die of boredom and repetitions.
The main reason (or excuse?) for today's trip was "Toy Story 3". This is the only computer-animated film that I don't mind watching. We watched the first one and the second one on video, and all of us were excited to see the third one's trailer at cinema earlier this year. So, none of us was against the idea that we would go out to watch the film during the summer holiday. We chose Wednesday because we all hate crowds. There were only 3 groups including us for the 10:30 viewing. Lucky that I can be more flexible than other working parents.
And the film? It is a very good one. As good as the first one, and better than the second one, I think. This one makes you laugh, makes you sad, makes you anxious and makes you happy. But again, the story is about what usually happens to any toys over many years (except for every toy in the film communicating with each other and moving by themselves, of course). So, I admire the talent of the writers for giving this film a good story without making up a stupid plot. (I don't like 99% of computer animated films for boring/uncreative/mediocre/cheap stories.) This one is quite long for a family film, but I can't think of any unnecessary part. So, if you are taking children to cinema for this film, you must insist that all empty whatever inside them before the film starts. Oh, and watching this one with 3D is quite good. It didn't hurt my eyes at all.
After the film, we had a lunch at Nando's, and went for a bit of unplanned shopping in the city centre, which is a very normal way to spend an afternoon when you don't have a man in your household. As usual, we couldn't resist beautiful stuff in Accessorize, played with an iPad at Apple shop, admired pretty stuff at Avoca, etc. My wee one finally found a pair of decent trainers for school in a sport shop, which was a relief for me. (She didn't like any in our town.) My big girl found and got a wackiest white cat ring. And I was chuffed to find a beautiful purse/wallet for myself. Oh, and this time I bought something that I don't need at all. I couldn't go home without a single cupcake stand at Avoca. (See the images of the box as well. You'll know how teensy and dainty it is.) I don't know why, but I'm thinking that my bedside table is the best place for the stand...
We are hoping to go back to the city before the school holiday is over. I must try and set aside some money for that.
