Holiday is over!

Now our Christmas tree taken away and my big girl back to school this morning, the festive mood is gone at long last. But it’s still very frosty and chilly. After reading the news that this December was the coldest in 30 years, I feel the chill much worse.

Trying to remember what was funny during the holiday time, and here are a couple of things:

My wee one was trying to tell me something about toys, but couldn’t get a few words out of the mouth. Then, suddenly she said, “You know, the Slovenian families…” But she actually meant “the Sylvanian families”. None of us knows anyone from Slovenia, you know.

Just after Christmas, a few mails arrived. One of the envelopes had a sticker on it, saying that I should pay a surcharge of £1.17. But our postman, G, didn’t knock the door, and he just pushed the envelope through the letterbox. Thank you. It was from UK Brights sending me a little prize of their badges for an online quiz which I had participated some weeks ago. (The first prize was a copy of Richard Dawkins’ latest book.) Knowing G is a Christian and the Brights is an organization for people with naturalistic views, it made me wonder if G would ignore the surcharge if he had known who the envelope was from…

By the way, we all spent the New Year’s Eve nicely. Watched “Life of Brian” on DVD, and then Jools Hollands’ show on BBC2. Actually, thanks to wine, no recollection of what was going on between the DVD and the music programme… I remember laughing a bit at Graham Norton on TV, though…
