It's interesting to know that I become obsessed with writing and cooking when I don't have much money/work. Still in a mood for writing, and trying new recipes out of books from the library.
My current favourite cookbook is The Ethinic Paris Cookbook. Full of reliable exciting recipes, even though the terms for cuts of meat sometimes confuse me because one of the authors is American. Yesterday, I made lamb stew with trunip and chickpeas from the book, and my goodness, it was out of this world!! It's an Algerian recipe. My girls told me that it was the best lamb dishes that I'd ever cooked, and we ended up nearly finishing 1.5 pounds of meat between us. (3 pigs living in this house of brick.) So, it was worth asking my butcher to get me some lamb for stew, and staring at his back for a few minutes while he was preparing the meat. The next time I go to the shop, I must ask him which part of lamb he gave me. The book suggested shoulder or leg. But I just asked lamb for stewing. I've been a regular customer for about 14 years, but they've never failed to give me top-quality stuff. Now my girls refuse to eat sausages and minced beef from supermarket. This is how good they are.
The Halloween night will be later this week, so I will bake stupid-looking biscuits or someting for trick-or-treaters. Yeah, another cooking project.
