Went back to a bank whose staff had told me that I could open a basic current account here and another one in Japan. For a long time I'd been looking for a bank in Japan which let me set up an account even though I'm not a resident.
So, I was surprised but pleased to hear that the bank in this town told me yesterday that they could help with a £100 one-off charge. So, today, I visited the bank. Then, they shifted the goalpost by telling me that I must open their premium account, otherwise they couldn't help me set up an account in Japan. Guess how much money (the minimum) I should put into the premium account to activate it? £50, 000!!! I'm sure I could buy at least 2/3 of the house which I live in with £50k. No, I'm not rich enough to set up such an account.
Pity. I'd really like an account in Japan now so that I could soon have better chance of earning more and make my life comfortable. But this bank indirectly tells me that I should already have loads of money lying around idly before starting to earn more.
After coming home, I phoned my father for help. No, no, I never ever dare to shamelessly ask him to lend me £50k. I asked him to do some research by visiting some banks and do some preparation for me to set up an account when I go to Japan the next time.
Now I'm more determined to be successful after the snobs at the bank wasted my time today.
