Buying shoes, of course.
Went out to the town centre with my girls. My wee one needed a new pair of trainers DESPERATELY. Went into a supermarket which sells clothes and household goods. Nothing fit her feet properly. Went to another similar kind of shop only to find everything was too small. So, for the very first time in my girls' lives, took them to a proper (not discount) shoe shop.
This was the first time that my girls got their feel measured properly by a shoe fitter. My wee one's size was 3E (rather narrow). And surprise, surprise, my big girl's size was 6!!!! Sometimes buy size 5 shoes for myself, you know. How could she grow so fast? She is only 10, you know. What did I feed her??
Anyway, the shoe-fitting girl was very nice, and my girls had a great time with her, choosing and trying to find the best-fitting shoes. In the end they decided to buy pairs which weren't their first choice. The prices were of course much more than the ones in discount shoe shops and supermarkets. But the quality is much better, indeed. Didn't feel bad about paying nearly £45 for two shoes, actually. Was glad that I could afford decent shoes for my children at very long last. Feel like a decent parent.
