Walked to the funeral parlour this morning. No, not for another funeral. It's for a headstone for the grave. I was going to have it sorted about 9-10 months ago, but couldn't bring myself to visit the office until today.
Glad that I went there and also glad that I didn't need anybody to come with me. Of course I wouldn't have felt as awkward if one of my friends had come with me. (Just to be with me, without interrupting my decisions for the choice of a headstone.) But after all, it's my duty and I should just get on with it all by myself.
Browsed a catalog and found one with a simple design with a vase at the centre bottom. Cheaper than I had expected even though all the prices were without VAT (Value Added Tax). £5 a letter for the surname at the top, and £1.50 each for each letter for the small letters. Must think what to put on the stone. Words should be clear and simple because I hate all those sentimental stuff, not because I'm stingy.
