After going out for lunch at a cafe and doing a bit of shopping in the town, M and I went to pick up my girls at school. When I was opening the front door and M closing the front gate, 3 oriental-looking young men (Chinese?) walking across the street were saying something. M later told me that the men seemed saying "Hello" in Chinese. Probably they might have thought that we were Chinese and tried to find out if we response to the language. But the thing is, such a thing had never happened when I was alone. Do I look too scary for the men to speak to? Or, do they find M attractive?
Felt it strange to walk outside with M. I mean, with another fellow country-person. Not used to speak Japanese in this town and I felt myself very odd and very foreign. Realised that my happiness in this country comes from integrating into the local community and being one of "them". I do 't mean that I didn't like M's company. I really enjoyed it.
Chatted a lot at night.
