An hour or so after coming back from the grocery shopping, a postman handed me a package. Instantly recognised the handwriting of my name and address on it, but it was a big surprise. Inside, I found an envelope and a wrapped thing which was about the same size and shape of my 5cm-thick trusty English-Japanese dictionary. The envelope said "Neither of this and the parcel to be opened until the 19 of September" How cruel!!! It's like a little child being handed a Christmas present a week early and being told not to open it!! (If you don't do such a thing to a child, you shouldn't do the same to me!)
So, I emailed the sender a "Thank you but you are very cruel" letter and later got a reasonable explanation and a permission to open the stuff. Surprise, surprise, it's a paperback copy of The Lord of the Rings. (I don't know what to say when I'd like to say something better than "Thank you". I'm forever grateful.) Now I'm glad that I haven't watched the films. I won't be bothered by the film pictures while reading. I'm sure this book will be a tough one as I heard that there are loads of invented languages. But who wouldn't jump into a challenge?
By the way, when I started opening the envelope and the parcel, my big one was with me and she asked if she could open anything. Of course I said childishly "No. They are all mine!" And you know what she said? "Why am I not allowed to open any? Is there any porn inside?"
