Lovely, lovely. Nic is back to school at last after being ill for a whole week! Went to the town centre this morning, feeling like just coming out of a hibernation. Did what I had to do and popped in the local Oxfam, which always has better selections of 2nd-hand books than the other charity shops in the town. Found and bought:
2 paperbacks: Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce and Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding.
2 hardbacks: Up at the Villa by Somerset Maugham (The collected edition) and Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell.
This Gone with... was reprinted in 1949 and now the binding is dodgy. But I couldn't resist this old-looking book. I love this soft feeling of thinner, dated paper. Now the headache is, to find space to keep these books. No wonder I don't want to move back to Japan. It will cost a fortune to shift all of my books from here to Japan and I can't bear a thought of me saying good-bye to them... I should ban myself from going inside the Oxfam. Some women can't walk past shoe shops and I can't walk past the Oxfam... From now on I should walk the other side of footpath on the street. (Easier said than done.)
Anyway, I had a nice free morning for a change. The books should keep me happy until the next bad weather in my life.
